Betrayal
To kick-start this, let's have a short one (who am I kidding, they're all short)! Enjoy~
“How dare you”, I cry, shaking with barely contained anger. “You betrayed me!” I cannot help myself — the words burst from my mouth. Standing across the clearing, Damien smirks. Even in my enraged state, I cannot but notice how good he looks. How good he always looks. I soften just a little, but it is enough for him to notice and use it to his advantage. After all, he knows me best.
“Tsk, tsk… Such strong words coming from a little girl.” As he speaks, his lips curl in a lazy smile. These words attack my pride — I have always been young to him. It seems not to matter to him that he is only twenty years older than me, a small number in the world of the immortal. To him, I am always and forever a little girl, and it irks me to know it.
I try again. “I may have been sired by you, but that doesn’t mean that I’m afraid of you-” I gasp as Damien suddenly appears in front of me. I have crossed the line, and I briefly fear for my life. In spite of all my experience and training, I can and will never be as fast or strong as him.
His eyes, normally a gorgeous sapphire blue, have turned blood red. He is not smiling anymore. I take a step back — the power that radiates off him is staggering. “Really?” he asks, his voice dangerously soft. “You don’t fear me?” All of a sudden, I feel the same paralyzing fear that I had felt when I saw him for the first time. I hate myself for showing this weakness in front of him, and look down, avoiding his gaze. Damien smiles, his fangs gleaming silver in the moonlight. He knows he’s won.
“Good girl.” He purrs, caressing my cheek. A shudder courses through me, and I back away from him. For the first time since I stepped into the clearing, I take note of my surroundings. I see only trees, no landmarks I recognize. “Where are we?” I warily ask. My anger has dissipated, only to be replaced by fear of this man. It is ironic that I trust him with my (undead) life, and yet I fear him. I dare not incur his wrath as he could kill me easily, without breaking a sweat. I will confront him someday, I decide. But not now. I have to make myself stronger first. Taking deep breaths, I calm myself down, no longer angry at Damien.
“This place?” Damien asks, carelessly gesturing to our surroundings. “Oh, we’re somewhere in the forests of Albania. I was thinking that we should go pay a visit to my dear vampyre cousins in Transylvania. It’s been a while since I saw them, and I’m quite anxious to introduce you to them as my mate.” Looking bored, he continues. “They can’t seem to understand that I’m not interested in them at all, so I’m hoping that presenting you as my mate will get them off my back.”
I’m honoured that Damien has chosen me as his mate, but I worry about his cousins. The Sagora Sisters – Lovissa, Cassandra and Adrianna are famed in the Night World for their violent natures. It is even rumoured that they once murdered an entire village in their heyday. They are definitely a force to be reckoned with, I tell myself. Just like Damien...
