What's Your Patronus?

What's a patronus?

According to Professor Lupin, it "is a kind of Anti-Dementor - a guardian which acts as a shield between you and the Dementor". It basically conjures an incarnation of the caster's innermost positive feelings, such as joy or hope, and is a weapon rather than a predator of souls. Patronuses shield their conjurors from Dementors, and can even drive them away. They can also be used to send messages.

Well. I've always wondered what my patronus would be.
Once upon a long-ass time ago when I was in Primary School, I'd have said that my patronus was a dog, mostly because my favourite animal back then was a dog (of course, that was way before I realised exactly how awkward I am around animals).

Then a few years after that when I was in Secondary School, I would have said that my patronus was a tortoise or a turtle, for reasons that I'd prefer not to say.

And then after I graduated from NAS, I asked myself again what my patronus could possibly be, and was rewarded with some voice inside me whispering that I would be a fox.

Of course, whether it would be a zenko or yako I wouldn't know or tell anyone ;)

And now that I'm much older from when I was 8 and happily announcing that my patronus was a dog for sure, I can tell you for sure that my patronus is a wolf.

My patronus would definitely be a wolf, and if I were to be an Animagus (a witch or wizard who can morph him or herself into an animal at will), I would definitely be a wolf. It feels right, you know what I mean? And it feels like my patronus won't be changing its form anymore. You know how in the series His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman a person's dæmon is ever-changing, until the person grows up and the dæmon takes a certain form and stays that way for the rest of its life?

Yeah, it feels like that.

  1. Patronus. Spirit Animal. Spirit Guide. So many forms, so many animals, so many meanings. I can honestly say that I see why a wolf fits you so. I can see mine being a bear, quite honestly. But it lacked something only one animal I could think of didn't. A dragon. I know how it sounds, saying I'm a dragon, but hey I think it best represents me, who cares what others say. Brave, strong and unique, like the mythical dragon :)

  2. A dragon patronus, huh... Interesting, uncommon, but not impossible. After all, Andros the Invincible was said to have been able to conjure up a patronus the size of a giant.

    1. But similarly, a Patronus that size requires a great memory. I certainly hope I have one in my to create a dragon. But, like I said, a dragon may seem rather egotistic. After all, I am likening myself to a dragon. Not quite humble, I know. But similar to your wolf, I can't think of something that fits me better. There's a ferocity in me that few animals can portray like a dragon can. But I must say, the wolf is a dark and mysterious creature, but it is fierce and loyal as well. The wolves would be proud to call you one of their own :)

    2. Thank you very much, I'm glad that I'm thought of as worthy to run with the pack :)
I wouldn't call it ego (well, not yet, I might not know you that well) but whatever it is, if you feel it suits you... Go with it. :)

    3. I certainly hope it isn't ego, I am actually quite loathe to say I think a dragon represents me because of what people may think of me. They may think me presumptuous, arrogant even. But I feel more at home with the heart of a dragon than any other animal :)
