Halloween Horror Nights
Today is Halloween, so here's wishing a Happy Halloween to everyone! Have a spooktacular day/night, muahahaha!!!
I went to Universal Studios Singapore (USS) last night with my cousin to celebrate. I'd heard that after the Night Safari stopped its Halloween activities, Halloween Horror Nights was actually the spookiest, scariest, event to be found in Singapore. This is the picture that was used for the promotional activities:
How deliciously terrifying.
I'd had to persuade my parents to let me go and celebrate All Hallow's Eve for the first time in my seventeen miserable years (beg would have been a better word, truthfully), but at least they agreed. For all the dark stuff that I love, I'm actually rather easily scared, so I was feeling a little bit nervous about going. I'm so glad I didn't chicken out, though. The moment I saw what was in USS, I swear my heart just stopped.
Past the entrance was this dark carnival-themed street, with red-and-green lights and smoke to add to the whole feeling of being in some hellish circus. There was this guy dressed up as a ringmaster on stilts, and he was pretty much alternating between scaring the visitors and taking pictures with them. Down the street, I could see more 'attractions' and every once in a while I could hear someone screaming. The general darkness (it was night, after all) also helped with the creepy mood.
I felt like I'd died and gone to Goth heaven. I was loving it.
According to the brochure/event guide that I took, there were four rides open: Battlestar Galactica HUMAN, Battlestar Galactica CYLON, Accelerator, and the popular Revenge of the Mummy ride. However, there were five scare zones that were unique only to USS Halloween Horror Nights: Carn-EVIL, Post-Apocalyptic Rage, The Void, The Edge of Darkness and 44Sins. There were also two haunted attractions: Pestilence and the Vengeance of the Matriarch. Here are the descriptions.
Carn-EVIL: This sinister carnival of mystery holds a dark deep secret. Step into its ring of evil and be suffocated by the hideous, distorted forms you see. Are they even human, or do their deformities stem from some mad curse?
Post-Apocalptic Rage: A nuclear apocalypse has devastated the city of New York! In the terrible aftermath, hungrey for raw meat and fresh blood, mutated zombies roam the desolate streets savaging helpless survivors for their next meal.
The Void: In this strange world, a sadistic Mad Scientist stalks humans and turns them into mechanical monsters. Screams of pain and anguish rip through the air as he dismembers and boils their limbs, then fastens metal prosthetic parts in place!
The Edge of Darkness: Dreaded mummies and mindless minions stagger in agony across a desolate wasteland, which now masquerades as a monster rave party zone, capturing unwary clubbers and casting them into this portal of Hell! Will you be one of these lost souls tonight?
44 Sins: Guarded by the Anubis is the portal to Hell, "44 Sins". Judgment is made upon your soul... and if worthy, entry is granted. Once inside, you will be immersed in the most "hellalicious" party on this earth. Be entranced! Dance and party the night away!
Pestilence: A demonic plague has infected many unfortunate inhabitants in the poverty-stricken docks and alleyways of 19th century America. Their skin peeling, their flesh decaying, their foul, putrid stench overwhelming - Stay away from these pitiful victims!
Vengeance of the Matriarch: Many years ago, a power-hungry Nonya seduced the village butcher to brutally murder her older sister in the family mansion. Today, the restless spirit of this demented Peranakan matriarch still resides in this haunted house, inviting you to enter her ghostly abode.
I managed to go to all of the scare zones except for 44 Sins (it was a club. I'm jealous haha) and didn't manage to go to Pestilence, because the queue was just too long. For the Vengeance of the Matriarch alone, the queue was 80 minutes! Goodness! :O
In all truth, we only managed to go for the Revenge of the Mummy ride and the Vengeance of the Matriarch attraction, because the queues were simply too long. They were so worth the queue, though! I would have gone for a second round of the Revenge of the Mummy were it not for the insane queue, and the Vengeance of the Matriarch was fun, even though the place was a little too dark so we couldn't really see anything. I feel that the scare zones were the best, though!
I loved Carn-EVIL! I think I would have stayed there forever if I could, haha! The ringmaster, the barker, the tattooed lady, the bearded lady, the hunchback, the feeling of being in some twisted, Gothic circus... It was amazing. I didn't go near the clowns, though! >.<" But seriously, I would have stayed there a lot longer had my cousin not dragged me away to see other parts of USS. Oh, and we saw the Director! You know, the guy who's holding the camera in the picture above? Yup, we saw him! And it was awesome!
Post-Apocalyptic Rage was pretty cool, too. In my opinion, the zombies couldn't compare to the circus 'freaks', but they were still awesome! Hahaha!!! The zombies would be either running around, chasing people who were shrieking and running the hell away from them, or shuffling up to people and shoving bloodied hearts in their faces. The scare-actors for the scare zones weren't exactly scary, it was just more of the heart-stopping moment when you turn and bam, they're right beside you. Those with the gruesome-looking masks were pretty creepy, though.
The Void was creepy. I don't know, I just felt that the guys with all the metal sticking out of their backs were cool, but they freaked me out at the same time. Especially when one of them went after me, screaming and with blood dripping from his head. :/ But somewhere further inside USS, near the Battlestar Galactica rides, there was this awesome voodoo doll. It was huge, and had all these black pins sticking into its head and body! :D
The Edge of Darkness was okay, with pharoahs and egyptian gods walking around, but the mummies were creepy. All the same, it was really fun! I just regret that we couldn't take pictures because it was too dark, and we couldn't see anything in the pictures with or without flash. Sigh!
My cousin sent me home after that, just before midnight. When I told my parents about all that had happened at USS, they got freaked out, and my mom was actually worried that I might get nightmares. I was like, "Are you kidding me? I loved it!"
I'd felt bad that I couldn't go for the DramaTec Halloween chalet because my parents had said no to that, but at least I got to properly celebrate Halloween this year. My first Halloween, hahaha!! I'd waited all year to celebrate it, and I really can't wait for next year either! Maybe next year I'll get to go to USS again with my friends to celebrate Halloween? Well, I'll need to save up anyway.
I was in Hell last night, and loving every minute of it.
