Semester Two, Day One
Yep, school has officially started again for us. Yesterday was pretty much Day 1 of Semester 1.2, and these are my new subjects:
- Persuasive Communication (PersComm, sounds fun)
- Public Speaking (WHOOHOO!!!)
- Photography (I'm a bit nervous about this)
- Media Management Principles (MMP=SNOOZEFEST)
- Journalism 2: Feature Writing (*cries with joy*)
I'll admit my timetable isn't as packed as some others, but hey, that doesn't mean I'll be breezing through! Okay, yesterday was pretty much a two-hour PersComm lecture, then a four-hour break, then a one-hour Public Speaking lecture.
For those of you who are under the impression that a four-hour equates to "WHOOHOO! LET'S PARTAYYYYY~", think again. That probably only applies to the Primary, Secondary and JC kids who would use a four-hour free period to sneak out of the classroom (or school, for some) and enjoy themselves. I am most definitely not enjoying the break, because we all know exactly how freaking hot Singapore gets in the afternoon, and the result is that we all end up fantasising about hopping onto the next bus headed in the general direction of HOME. I'll probably be grateful for the break when we have tons of work to do, but for now.... Nope.
PersComm was fine, sort of like a two-hour English letter-writing class with most people not bothering to actually listen to the lecturer. That's all very fine and dandy with me, because I'll be honest. I don't actually care if you pay attention to the lecture, as long as you don't disrupt my focus. I, being a non-model student, can perfectly understand if you don't want to pay attention to the lecture because you're bored stiff and such. I've felt that way many times. But, disrupt my concentration and die, you baboons.
I really wanted to listen during the lecture because 1) I actually liked this subject. 2) I wanted to do well for Sem2. And your not-really-whispering about which boy texted you and the gazillion reasons why you think you're not sure if you like him is not helping in my wanting to concentrate. I'll be a bitch and say right now that the only reason why most people actually turned up for the lectures was because this is first week and everyone knows that not turning up for the first lecture of any subject is not going to leave a very good impression on the lecturer.
Irritating little twits.
And then, when I went for the Public Speaking lecture, the same damn problem presented itself. There were guys yakking away behind me about the apps in their phones. I wanted to strangle them. Has no one heard of note-passing? It's just as irritating, but it's silent, at least. And it somewhat ensures that the person sitting in front of the note-passers harbours no fantasies of introducing their necks to a nice, long piece of rope. Grr.
Moving on to others, remember the group of people who were making my life hell in Sem1? And remember how I said that I wasn't going to let them spoil my Sem2? Well, we do have to work together for subjects, after all, and my friends and I are only a trio. So we usualy need either one or two other classmates to team up with us. With me so far? Okay. We had to figure out four groups for MMP, and T03, being a class of nineteen, needed to have three groups of five and one of four. I knew that our classmates would always pick their favourite 'friends' for their groups, conveniently leaving out those they didn't like so much, or those who were the outcasts of the group. My friends and I would then be given the leftovers to work with.
You can obviously understand that I was far from surprised with who our two other teammates would be. A guy and girl (let's call them 'Jam' and 'Egg' for now), who were pretty obviously the least favourite of their cliques. Awww, poor babies. I might have felt sorry for them if they hadn't made my life hell. In fact, 'Egg' had been especially mean to my friend and I, telling my other friend in Sem1 all the reasons why we were so irritating to her. But that's alright, I'll not be holding anything against her when we start working. I'm going to be as professional as possible even if they can't. All bitchslapping and backstabbing can wait till the work is done. Besides, what makes me feel somewhat selfishly happy is that 'Egg' hadn't been liked in her secondary school, having been well-known for befriending people only if they benefited her in some way. Well, I can't say I hadn't noticed that.
What a way to be welcomed back to TP, huh. Well, what can I say? Welcome to the media scene, lovelies. ;)
