Internship - End

Friday was my last day at work.
I'll be honest and say that yeah, I was hoping to go for lunch with the news team or something.
You know, something to remember.
But I wasn't going to get my hopes up for anything because I understood.
The news team was busy and quite frankly, it's not possible for everyone to go for lunch together because we have to write the news and all.

But I was genuinely surprised when they actually got pizza and we had a sort-of lunch in the office.

Domino's Pizza and warm coke mmdap.

It was funny because everyone was grabbing pizza and breadsticks and chicken nuggets (At least, I think they were chicken nuggets) and moving around because they still had to write the news and read the news and all.
I couldn't help but laugh when I realised that to me, this was the best lunch I'd ever had in the entire time I was working there.

Sure, I was slightly envious when I saw Jane's Instagram photos that her mentor and colleagues had brought her out to eat at some nice place.
But it was while I was eating pizza and chatting and laughing with the news team that I realised I'd be happier with this kind of lunch instead of some fancy lunch thing.
It was sort of awkward and everyone was walking around to finish writing the news or checking for updates and so on.
I loved it - it felt like a very genuine sort of lunch to me, like it summed up my internship very well to me.

And they gave me a card that they all wrote in (it's in that blue envelope you see in the picture) which I thought was really nice of them, not to mention very fitting.
In the 6 months I've been working here, I've been playing around with words.
I mean, words are pretty much our job here, get what I mean?
So I felt it was really nice to receive words from them too.
(It's really difficult to explain what I mean so I hope whoever's reading this gets it and won't think I'm too weird or whatever.)

Plus, it was funny when they said they'd miss me, and I admitted that I was going to miss them a lot.
Which led to a lot of "awww"s and laughter.

But yeah.
The day was as normal as ever, just with me writing less and packing up and doing clearance more.
I had to turn in my temp card and cupboard keys and (this hurts the most) my media pass.
I was so sad at having to return it because I'd genuinely gotten fond of it.

In a way, I'm beyond sad at having to leave.
But a part of me understands that it's part of everything, you know?
People come and go, and it's my turn to go.

All I can do is thank everyone at the office, especially the news team, for teaching me so much.
I know everyone says it, but I feel I really did learn a lot.
I was forced to think faster, do damage control on my own (like the time my recorder died in the middle of a minister's speech and I had to think about how I was going to get a recording because I needed it for 2pm news - I ended up asking a reporter I'd sort of befriended to email me the recording and he did, thank goodness) and be more confident.
I'm still nervous, but better now.

And then... PICTURES.
I didn't manage to get a quick pic with a lot of people because I was mostly at my desk the whole of the day and didn't see many people, but I did manage to get pictures with 5/7 of the whole news team (Cheryl and Poh Ling weren't in the office on Friday, and I forgot to ask them the day before).

Introducing.... SAFRA Radio's awesomesauce news team!!
Yu Ting, Nicholas, Shu Hui, Jason and Min Chao are in the pictures, while Cheryl and Poh Ling aren't because I forgot to ask them on Thursday :(

And then other awesome people in the office (I didn't manage to ask a lot because it was 7pm by the time I knocked off and the office was mostly empty by then).

Jacqui, Fendy, Kelvin (feat. Chicken - it's a long story) and Charmaine.
All awesome people whom I'm going to miss a lot.

And then of course JK, with whom one picture wasn't enough...

Dammit. I'm really going to miss them.
But here's hoping I'll be able to see them around some day, whether at events or even on the streets or something.
