University classes have finally started! I was supposed to take 4 modules this trimester (Communication Theory, Professional Writing, Digital Communication and an elective choice of either some IT thing or Microeconomics, though neither sound very appealing), but because I'd taken similar subjects in TP I was exempted from the Professional Writing module. Not bad, huh? I chose to take Econs too, though I wasn't very happy about it - I'm so bad at anything related to Math (I know they say Econs isn't related to Math, but regardless) that the moment you toss me an equation chances are high that you've lost me.

Anyway, I'd made my peace with the module (not that I'd had much choice) and faithfully attended lectures, making sure to take notes so I at least had some way of organising the mess that I tend to make during lectures.

Before...

and After.

Have I ever mentioned how messy the add-drop module process tends to be in our school? Because I was told only two weeks after classes had started that I was exempted from Econs for reasons unknown. Wow, lucky me. I still feel a little cheated, though, because I'd actually put in a fair bit of effort into making my notes as comprehensive as possible and now they're kind of just sitting in a folder beside my desk.

Anyone wants the notes from the first two lectures?

So the modules I have to take now are

  • Introduction to Communication Theory
  • Introduction to Professional Writing
  • Introduction to Digital Communication
  • Elective (Microeconomics for Business)

But just because it's only two modules doesn't mean that it's a light trimester - just looking at the assignments makes me a tad queasy, though I'm also excited to start doing stuff again.

For example, we have to pick a seminar question to present and write a report about for Comm Theory (I had to re-read half the questions because they were so complicated) and for DigiComms we have to create a blog - I never knew Wordpress could be so intimidating.

"Think about what you want to do in the future.
What do you want to be when you grow up?"

This was the question asked of us during our DigiComms tutorial last Friday. In all honesty, I'm still mulling it over, trying to see how many different answers I can give or how detailed I can make my answer. I do have an answer, but I don't like how it sounds because it doesn't sound good enough.

That's all I want.

Edit: Today's International Literacy Day, so I want to share a few books (and the series that some represent) that shaped my childhood. I read a lot as a kid, so I'll just put those that I remember!

My only regret is that I never finished the series because I could only find the books in my school library at the time, and I graduated before I could borrow the second last book. By the time I tried getting back into the series, the rhythm felt funny and I'd forgotten most of what had happened.

Enough said.

Also never managed to finish the series because I grew up way too fast.

These were fantastic - each book had like five or six mystery cases, and Encyclopedia Brown solved them all. What the readers had to do was figure out how he solved the mysteries, and detailed explanations were provided at the back of the book if you found yourself stumped.

This was another fantastic series - my mum had me started on the junior series (see below) and then I started reading the original series when she told me that she'd read them as a secondary school student. What made me really upset, though, was when she told me she'd had books 1-50 but sold them all off before I was born. I moped for days.

This was for me one of the best series out there - I managed to read till the second generation of Warriors before I graduated, but when I tried picking the books up again the author had introduced too many new characters that I found myself thoroughly confused.
(I still miss the original names though - Firestar and Sandstorm were my favourites)

I'd add more, but I want to keep it to the books I remember best from my primary school years - there're too many too add from my teenage years!
