The Steel Lover
It's interesting.
Those around you always tell you to be strong,
to pick yourself up when you fall.
But what do you do when no one around you gives you a reason to be strong?
Those around stare with unfriendly eyes
waiting to pick you apart
laugh at the smallest mistake you make
and send you back into your corner, knife in hand.
And then those who should be there... Aren't.
They tell you something's wrong with you.
That you're not "normal".
That you need to be who you're not.
They keep taunting and pushing and pulling
until you're on the floor
how did you get there?
wet eyes
salty streaks
and then they ask you
why, why
why are you crying
why can't you be strong
why do you have to be so weak
why do you have to be so weird
why can't you be like the others
there's a perfectly nice girl - why can't you be like her
why can't you be NORMAL
And when you break
you have to make sure that no one's around
because if they saw they would
scream
separate you from your lover
not understand why
but you need that cold caress
that kiss
to keep going
knowing that he's left his loving mark on you
a reminder, sweet souvenir
or perhaps salty instead of sweet
Because you can't be strong anymore.
you don't even know where the mask ends
and you begin
You no longer know how many you wear
or what you really look like anymore.
You tried being strong
but you kept being pushed down
kicked
until you couldn't take it anymore
too many bruises that no one could see
but enough is enough
what can you do?
you want to introduce your lover
but who can you tell?
no one would believe
no one would accept
so this is why they call it a "secret" then.
some know, some don't
but no one will ever address it
until it's too late.
Understand?
Understand?
