Love
She loved
snowflakes
and the way
they melted in her hair
and in her
hands
and on her
tongue
She loved
the stars
and how
they shone at night
somehow
making her feel less alone
even though
they were so far away
She loved
Winter
even though
she could barely stand the cold
still she
ran out in her coat and scarf and boots
and
shivered as she watched the falling snow
She loved
the snow
although
her skin had never felt its cool kiss
and the
coldest caress she knew was when the wind tangled its fingers in her hair
She loved
the stars
even though
the bright lights in the city skies
meant she
had never seen the millions of souls
winking
down from the heavens
She loved
Winter
even though
every day was sun and wind and rain and heat
and she
never knew what it meant when Jack Frost was supposed to be nipping at her nose
That, she
supposed, could be the howl of the wind
the steady
roar of falling rain
every time
the dark clouds rolled by
And that
was why she would always grab her
umbrella
jacket
boots
and stand,
shivering, watching the rain fall
It reminded
her of the snow and the stars and the Winter she never knew of.
